Sharon Peterson, the founder and late executive director of the Montana Bioscience Alliance, was a visionary leader, mentor, and tireless advocate for science, education, and opportunity. Born in Great Falls, Montana, Sharon grew up in Belt, where she cultivated a deep connection to her community and a passion for education. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Montana State University and later completed a Master of Business Administration from the University of Montana, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.

Sharon dedicated her career to fostering innovation and collaboration, driving the development of Montana’s bioscience ecosystem. Her work touched lives across the state, building partnerships and creating opportunities that continue to benefit Montana today. Sharon’s love for Montana and her unwavering belief in the power of education were at the heart of everything she did.
In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, Sharon has been inducted into the Montana Bioscience Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to her enduring impact on our bioscience community.

To further honor her legacy, we are proud to announce the creation of the Sharon Peterson STEM Scholarship.
This annual $2,500 scholarship is designed to support Montana teachers in STEM fields. By empowering educators, the scholarship seeks to inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators, and problem-solvers—fulfilling Sharon’s vision for a brighter, STEM-powered future.
Montana teachers passionate about STEM education are encouraged to apply. The application process is simple and accessible through our website at montanabio.org or directly at bit.ly/mtbioscholarship.

This scholarship is more than financial support; it embodies Sharon’s steadfast belief in the transformative power of education and the extraordinary potential of Montana communities. By providing this opportunity, we aim to honor her memory and continue the work she cared so deeply about—creating opportunities and advancing STEM education across the state.
Please join us in celebrating Sharon’s induction into the Hall of Fame and in spreading the word about this scholarship. Together, we can ensure that her legacy of leadership, innovation, and dedication to education continues to shape Montana’s future.
